Some debt collecting companies are far worse than others. There are those who have a sideline in firing off speculative correspondence about hypothetical debt telling people that they owe some money when in fact they know they owe nothing at all. This tactic seems to work well for the debt collection companies for the reason that they know that a certain percentage of people always give way when bullied even though they know perfectly well that they are not indebted to anyone. Some of these debt collection firms purchase information about lists of delinquent debtor accounts over six years old to try and profit from them. But the problem here is that it is illegal.
